Accessing Blinn College District Remote Apps from MAC OS

Summary

This article provides step by step instructions on accessing remote apps from a MAC operating system.

Body

1.    Search the App Store for Microsoft Remote Desktop and install it on your system first.

2.    Open a web browser and type https://mypcrds.blinn.edu in the address box.

3.    Enter your email address for the username.
Students: firstname.lastname##@buc.blinn.edu, where ## are the last two digits of your student ID number.


4.    After signing in, you will see an icon(s) for the program(s) that you have been granted access to. If you do not see any icons, submit a help ticket thru the support portal, support.blinn.edu, or contact the help desk at 979-830-4357.

Note: Your icons will be different depending on what programs you have been grant access to.

5.    Click on the Icon to download the RDP file that you will need to connect to the program. Repeat for each app.

6.    You may be prompted to allow the download. Choose Allow.


 
7.    The download will commence and show at the bottom of your screen.
8.    Open the Microsoft Remote Desktop program that you installed earlier.
9.    In the top left, click on the gear icon and select “Import from RDP file…”


10.    Navigate to the download folder, select the RDP file that you just downloaded.


11.    Click import.
12.    Click on the pencil to edit the imported PC.
 


 
13.    Change the Friendly name to the name of the program that you are accessing. DO NOT change the PC Name.

14.    From the same window, click on the double arrows and select “Add User Account…”

 


15.    Enter your Blinn email for the Username. Entering your password is not required but it is recommended. Then Click the Add button.


16.    On the Edit PC window, click on Folders then click the plus sign at the bottom left.
(Note: This step is only required if you are using Adobe or Autodesk. If you are not using either skip to step 18)

 
17.    Use Shift + Command + H to select the users Home Folder or select the Home Folder from the Dropdown, then click Open.

18.    Click save on the Edit PC window.

19.    To connect to the remote app, Double click on the remote app, or right click and select connect.

 
20.    You will be prompted to enter your password if you did not enter it in step 15. Then click Continue.


21.    You will receive a push notification on your mobile phone asking you to Approve or Deny. Select Approve to continue.

22.    If prompted allow access to your microphone and camera. (You will not see this the next time you connect to your virtual desktop.)
