Support Description
A compromised account refers to an account that has been accessed by an unauthorized individual. Cybercriminals and hackers often aim to obtain:
- Access to college networks, including processing power and storage resources, which they can exploit for illegal activities.
- Access to academic resources, such as library databases and journal subscriptions.
- Personal information to facilitate identity theft, engage in fraudulent activities, and leverage your reputation to target your contacts for phishing attacks.
When accounts are compromised, significant computing resources and sensitive institutional or personal data become vulnerable. Accounts that may appear to have limited access still hold value for hackers, even if they do not contain private information or valuable emails.
