Report Lost or Stolen Equipment

Support Description

Use One Drive to Prevent Data Loss

This is a prime example of why Blinn College IT encourages saving all documents to the cloud via Office 365 One Drive.  Doing so provides a safe and secure location for all of your digital data.

Reporting stolen devices:

  1. Report the theft to the police. Notify local law enforcement in the jurisdiction where the device was stolen (Blinn Campus Police or the local police if in an off-campus location). Be sure to document the case number and primary police contact for the case.
  2. Notify your supervisor and work to determine if any confidential or sensitive data may have been compromised.  Document any confidential/sensitive data that may have been exposed.
  3. Secure your account.  Go to password.blinn.edu and immediately change the password to your Blinn account.
  4. Report a Loss. Use this service to report the loss.  Include the location, date, and time where the device was stolen, the police case number (or a copy of the report if available), a detailed report of any confidential/sensitive data, and any other details that seem pertinent. (device name, device type, model number, serial number, asset tag, if known)  If you are unable to report the loss online, call the IT Help Desk at (979) 830-4357 to report the theft.
