Console Registration

Service Description

Devices that connect using a MAC address include gaming consoles (PlayStation, Xbox), smart TVs, streaming devices (Apple TV, Roku), smart speakers, and other web-enabled gadgets like Blu-ray players. These devices often require manual registration of their MAC address to be allowed onto a university network, which typically uses a portal for login.

Examples of Devices

  • Gaming consoles: PlayStation, Xbox, and others
  • Smart TVs and streaming devices: Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast, and smart TVs
  • Smart home and digital assistants: Amazon Echo and other smart speakers
  • Other web-enabled devices: Blu-ray players, eReaders, and IP phones

Why Registration is Needed

  • Network security: Universities use MAC address registration to identify authorized devices and block unauthorized ones on the dorm network.
  • Network management: It helps the university manage network access and control which devices can connect.

How to Find Your Device's MAC address

  • Check the device's settings menu.
  • Look on the device's physical label, often on the underside.
  • Consult the device's user manual or the manufacturer's website.
