Using USB Phones on Shared Office Computers with Teams

Overview

Shared offices such as those found at RELLIS or in the B Building in Bryan will have computer stations that can be shared by faculty. These shared workstations will often have a USB phone attached. These are different from Teams Phones.

Follow these steps when using USB phones with Teams.

Step by Step Guide

Placing Calls

USB Phones are different from Teams phones in that there is no touchscreen and you will not hear a dial tone when you pick up the handset, nor will you be able to use the phone’s dial pad. All dialing for outgoing calls will need to take place within the Teams Calls window dial pad. Once a call has been made in Teams, you can pick up and use the headset.

Receiving Calls

When you receive a phone call on a shared computer with a USB phone, you will need to answer it in Teams. Lifting up the headset does not answer the call. Only by clicking the Teams Answer icon on your monitor will you be able to answer the call.

When you answer the call this way, the USB phone will automatically turn on its speakerphone. At this point, you can pick up the handset if desired. Otherwise, the answered call will continue via speakerphone.
