Overview
As state and federal entities move to multi-factor authentication for networked resources, some users either do not have a smartphone or may wish to use alternative means to authenticate. For those users, a YubiKey may be used on Blinn networks. Please follow the step by step instructions below.
A YubiKey is a USB dongle inserted into your computer. It serves as an alternative authentication method for those unable to use the iPhone or Android app for Duo.

YubiKeys are tied to individuals, not entities. Therefore, you will want your own personal YubiKey if you do not have or cannot use a smartphone. It can be used on other Duo systems such as those at Texas A&M. Please visit the YubiKey site at https://yubico.com to purchase. We currently recommend the least expensive YubiKey, the Security Key NFC pictured above. Alternatively, the Security Key C NFC by Yubico fits a smaller USB-C port.
Step by Step Guide
Once you have the YubiKey in your possession, follow these steps to register it for use:
1. Insert the YubiKey into a USB port and let your system configure it.
2. Attempt to login to my.blinn.edu. You will see the Check for a Duo push window. Click Other options. On the next screen, click Manage devices.

3. You will be prompted to Verify your identity. If you do not have the Duo app installed on a phone or other device, you will need to call our Help Desk at 979-830-4357 and obtain a Bypass code.

4. Once you are verified, you will go to the Add a device window. From here, click Add a device.

5. Choose Security key from the Select an option window.

6. Click Continue on the Security key window.

7. Windows security dialogue windows will pop up inside Chrome. Click OK.

8. You will then be prompted to Touch your security key, which will be flashing in its USB port. Touch the part in the circle that is flashing with a finger or thumb.

9. You will see the confirmation window Added security key. Click Continue.

10. You will now be returned to the Add a device page. Here you will see the Security key as one of your authentication devices.
