Overview

If a ZOOM recording is processing in the cloud can the instructor log off?

Yes, an instructor can log off while a Zoom cloud recording is processing because the processing happens on Zoom's servers, not the instructor's computer. Once the recording has been stopped, the recording will continue to be processed even if the host leaves the meeting. Zoom will send an email to the host's email address when the process is completed. There will be two links in the email, the first will be for the Host-only, to manage the recording. The second link will be for the participants.

How it Works

  • Recording continues after log-off: The key benefit of a cloud recording is that it is handled entirely in the cloud. This means the instructor doesn't need to stay connected or keep their computer on for the video to be saved and processed.
  • Processing in the cloud: Once the meeting is over, the recording is sent to Zoom's cloud for processing, which can take some time depending on factors like the meeting length and the current processing queue.
  • Email notification: Zoom will send an email to the host when the processing is finished. This email will include a link to the recording, which can then be managed and shared with students.
  • Alternative hosts: If the instructor needs to leave before a recording is finished, they can transfer host controls to a co-host or alternative host, and the recording will still be saved to the original host's account.
