🛠️ How to Make a Request

The Blinn College District Facilities, Planning, and Construction team supports all campuses, including academic buildings, offices, and residential housing. This guide explains how students and employees can submit maintenance and facility-related requests, when to call instead of using the online system, and how to track the status of a request.

Overview

Both Blinn employees and residential students may request routine maintenance or facility support using one of the methods below. Using the proper method helps Facilities route, prioritize, and complete your request as efficiently as possible.

1. Submit a Work Order Online (Preferred)

The online work order system is available 24 hours a day and is the preferred way to submit most requests. This ensures your request is tracked, assigned to the right team, and updated with notes and status changes.

This method is best for:

  • Routine maintenance in offices, classrooms, and labs
  • Residence hall maintenance needs
  • Comfort issues (too hot/too cold)
  • Custodial concerns
  • Lighting issues (burned-out bulbs, flickering lights)
  • Grounds-related concerns
  • Signage needs
  • Minor repairs and non-urgent building access questions

2. Call Facilities During Business Hours

Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

  • Brenham, Sealy, Schulenburg & Waller: 979-830-4466
  • Bryan & RELLIS: 979-209-7373

You may call if you:

  • Need advice on whether an issue is an emergency
  • Need help describing a maintenance issue
  • Need to add details or clarify an existing work order
  • Have a concern that appears to be interfering with campus operations

ℹ️

Even if you call about a maintenance concern, Facilities may ask you to also submit a work order in the online system. This ensures your request is logged, properly routed, and that you receive system notifications and updates throughout the process.

Tracking the Status of Your Request

Facilities Maintenance uses the online work order system to communicate progress and next steps. Technicians and supervisors will often add notes and status updates directly in the system.

Before Calling for an Update

If you have questions about the status of your request, please:

  • Log into the work order system.
  • Review any notes, comments, or status changes posted by Facilities staff.
  • Check for scheduled dates or “completed” notifications.

Many common questions can be answered by checking the notes in the system. If you still have concerns after reviewing your work order, you may contact Facilities.

When You Must Call Instead of Submitting Online

Some situations require immediate attention and should not be submitted through the online work order system. These are considered urgent or emergency issues.

⚠️

Call Facilities immediately if you encounter:

  • Active water leaks or flooding
  • Sewage backups or overflowing restrooms
  • Electrical hazards (sparks, burning odors, exposed wiring)
  • Broken exterior doors or locks that prevent building security
  • HVAC failures during extreme temperatures
  • Any condition that could cause injury or significant property damage

For issues involving fire, medical emergencies, or criminal activity, call 911 first.

After-Hours Emergency Maintenance

For urgent facilities issues outside of regular business hours (evenings, weekends, and holidays), please call:

  • Brenham, Sealy, Schulenburg & Waller: 979-830-4466
  • Bryan & RELLIS: 979-209-7373

How Requests Are Processed

All online and phone requests are prioritized using a triage approach to address the most critical and impactful issues first.

  • Online work orders submitted after 3:00 p.m. may not be assigned to a technician until the following business day.
  • Requests that involve safety concerns or major operational impact are handled first.
  • Issues affecting classrooms, labs, and academic operations are prioritized next.
  • Routine requests (minor repairs, comfort issues, cosmetic concerns) are addressed as staffing and workload allow.
  • Residential student requests are processed within the same triage framework as all campus requests.
