How to Find Your IP Address

Overview

This article provides instructions on locating your computer's IP address for both Windows 11 and macOS. Understanding your IP address can be essential for diagnosing network problems or configuring certain software.

Step by Step Guide

Windows 11

  1. On the Desktop, click on the Window Start icon and type Settings.
  2. Open Device Settings by clicking on Settings.
  3. In the Settings menu, click Network & Internet.
  4. On the Network & Internet page, click on Advanced Network Settings.
  5. In the Advanced Network Settings, click on Hardware and Connection Properties.
  6. Under the Hardware and Connection Properties section, locate the Ethernet connection or Wi-Fi connection, and the IP Address is listed next to IPv4 Address.

 

macOS

  1. Click the Apple icon in the top-left corner of your screen and select Settings (on newer macOS) or System Preferences (on older macOS).
  2. Click on the Network icon. 
  3. In the left-hand menu, select your active connection, such as Wi-Fi or Ethernet. 
  4. Your IP address is displayed directly below the connection status, which is usually a line of smaller text. 
  5. For more detailed information, click the Advanced button, then go to the TCP/IP tab. Here you will find more comprehensive network details, including your IP address.
