Introducing Wacom

Wacom tablets are interactive pen-based devices attached to projectors in the majority of Blinn classrooms. These are our newest presentation podiums, and are replacing the older Smart products.

To turn it on:

The power switch is located on the back panel, center top. The Wacom does not need to be shut down after use. You can simply log out of your account.

Create a Wacom account

Save your customized configuration of the Wacom podium by creating an account on Wacom.com.

When starting the system, login to the Wacom Desktop Center with your account in order to access custom settings.

Using Windows Ink in Windows 10

All Windows 10 machines have Windows Ink drivers installed. From here, you can choose applications allowing you to write on the screen.

Sticky Notes let you move small notes around on the screen.

Sketchpad offers a bigger whiteboard-like canvas.

Screen Sketch allows you to annotate what is on the screen.

Left click on the Windows Ink icon in your Windows 10 toolbar to bring up the Workspace.  If you don’t see it, right click on the toolbar and check “Show Windows Ink Workspace Button.”

Inking features in Office 2016

Office 2016 is the current standard installation for Blinn computers. You can use the Wacom pen

in Office 2016 products such as Word by clicking on the Review tab, then choose “Start Inking.”

Using Notebook

Choose the Windows 10 Notebook app to gain full inking capabilities and sharing with students. It’s listed as OneNote on Windows 10 machines.

OneNote 2016 is also available, offering the classic look and feel. Read “What’s the difference” in Windows Help to find out more about how the programs differ.

Insert Word docs, web graphics, and other things to annotate. The initial start page has training videos and explains how to set up content libraries and student sections.

Drawing in Notebook

Click the Draw tab for whiteboard functions. Ink to Shape will automatically transform hand-drawn items into perfect shapes.

Math can be used for simple freehand equations.

After selecting, you can choose to evaluate and show solution steps automatically.

Customize Wacom Configurations

Click My Devices.

On Touch options, “Use Windows gestures” is the most common selection.

Assign shortcuts to the buttons on the left and right side of the screen. When  logging into your Wacom account in the future, your customizations will be retained.

Backup your custom settings

Make a local copy on your L drive or OneDrive.

The default file name is Backup.wacomprefs.

If you created a Wacom ac-count (see p.1), you  can use the Cloud Backup function and save it to  your account.

When starting a new Wacom session, after logging  in you can click Restore and select your backup configuration.  This way, you don’t have to change the shortcuts every time.
