Solstice Pod Use in the Classroom

Overview

Solstice Pods are our wireless projection devices. Classrooms equipped with Solstice Pods typically have an instructional poster on the wall near the podium. You can also check out the current list of classrooms to see if yours has one.

Step by Step Guide

You'll change the display output on the podium computer's X panel (i.e., to "HDMI 2"), and any device that needs to connect wirelessly to the Solstice Pod can do so after installing the app.

Once that's all in place, you can display output from mobile devices without wires. Here are five ways you can use Solstice Pods in the classroom:

  1. Show cellphone videos and photos - on occasion you or a student may have cellphone content that the whole class needs to see. Using Solstice Pods, you can send the content on the phone up on the projector.
  2. Show hand-drawn graphics on a tablet - sketches, equations, or other graphical data created using a tablet or touchscreen device can be displayed in real time up on the projector to the class.
  3. Hook up a Macbook Air - Are you a Mac person? Do you wish you could lecture using your Mac's output? Solstice Pods make it possible.
  4. Switch between two separate computers during lectures - Since Solstice Pods reside on the alternative video input to the projector, you can switch back and forth from the Solstice display to the podium computer's display, quickly showing content from both.
  5. Let students display work without cables - displaying content from an external laptop has been problematic in the past, especially with locked cabinets and hard to reach ports. But with Solstice Pods you don't have to deal with ports or cables. Everything is handled wirelessly through the app.
