Problem:
A discussion board cannot be accessed by your students, or
your students cannot post to an open discussion.
Solution:
Check whether the dates for BOTH the topic and forum are
open and unlocked:
1. Go
to Edit Course
2. Click
Discussions
3. Find
the discussion in question. Is it a forum or a topic?

Forums usually contain several topics. They are like a classroom
building that students can enter.

Topics are where the actual discussions take place. They are like
the classrooms inside the classroom building.

For the students to be able to access the discussion, both the topic and
the forum must be open and unlocked. Opening the topic but not the forum is
like opening up a classroom but leaving the building's outer doors locked.

Change the open dates on both forums and topics by editing, then going
to the restrictions tab. Make sure that the dates allow for both forum and
topic to be accessible.
6.
Check the locking options. Locking a topic allows users to be able to
read through the responses but not add or respond. Make sure both the forum and
the topic are not locked.
We strongly recommend that you always leave forums
accessible and unlocked.
